The “Athletics Union” of the Netherlands is the organization with over 300 affiliated associations, 80 running groups and almost 2,200 running events per year, being one of the most comprehensive sports organizations in the “country of tulips”. It is an active and service-oriented organization located at the Sportcentrum Papendal in Arnhem.
The history of sports in these lands is “lost” deep in the mists of time, the Dutch being recognized as great lovers of movement. It is worth mentioning in this sense that the “Olympic Stadium” in Amsterdam hosted the 1928 Olympic Games.
Athletes have taken the fame of the Netherlands all over the world. And this only if we mention Dafne Schippers, silver at the 2016 Olympic Games in the 200 m, an event in which he won the World Championships in 2015 and 2017. Or Sifan Hassan who at the last edition of the World Championships in Doha, 2019, won two gold medals, in the 1500 m and 10,000 m.
In 2019, during the eighth edition of the European Team Championship, the Netherlands played in the Superliga, but relegated and in Cluj Napoca will compete in 1st League.
