European Team Championship – 1st League enters a straight line to Cluj-Napoca

25.03.2021 – The technical partners of the European Team Championship – 1st League, visited Cluj Arena and said they were impressed by the conditions offered by the organization of this European Championship.

Romania hosts for the first time a European athletics championship with stadium tests! European Team Championship – 1st League takes place on June 19 and 20, 2021, in Cluj Napoca and brings together 13 European teams at the start: Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, Turkey, Norway and Romania.

In 1st League of this competition are represented some of the strongest countries in athletics, among the participating teams being numerous athletes who have won medals at world and European championships and holders of world records.

The organization of the European Team Championship – 1st League is coordinated by the European Association of Athletics Federations (European Athletics), implemented by the Romanian Athletics Federation through the Local Organizing Committee and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Cluj Napoca City Hall and Cluj County Council.

During a new preparation stage, last week representatives of European Athletics technical partners arrived in Cluj-Napoca to help implement this European championship. Consultants of television, technology, competition organization, timing and competition graphics arrived in Cluj-Napoca (Cluj Arena) to check the technical conditions and to draw the location of technical equipment and the flow of communication during the competition.

Experts from Turkey, Hungary, Spain, Serbia, Germany arrived who, together with specialists in television production, technology and organization of competitions in Romania, presented to the Local Organizing Committee the technical requirements for organizing this championship and presented the technical solutions for implementation in their best conditions.

Following the discussions, the host of the competition, the Cluj Arena sports arena, undertook to implement all the requirements imposed by the television transmission, the location of the technical timing and measurement equipment, video systems and communication technology.

“Organizing this championship in Romania is the first step towards normalcy. We are glad that Romania enters the area of the organizers of great European athletics championships and will host, in the coming years, spectacular athletics competitions that will bring athletics back to where it belongs, in the forefront of sports competitions” – Florin Florea, president of the Romanian Athletics Federation Athletics.

The visit of the technical partners was preceded, in February, by the visit of the European Athletics representatives who checked the accommodation and competition conditions in Cluj-Napoca and categorized as excellent the conditions found here.

European Team Championship – 1st League brings together 13 teams, of which the first two ranked will advance to the Superliga, and the last 3 will relegate to League 2.

League 1 is the most dynamic European league and brings together countries with very strong teams.
