Athletics is one of the most popular sports in Sweden – both among practitioners and the public. Athletics is aimed at both young people and the olderly, men and women.
The “Swedish Athletics Association”, which was founded in 1895, is one of the largest sports associations in Sweden. Today it has just over 600,000 members organized in almost 1,000 associations in 23 districts. In addition, every year, more than half a million Swedes take part in running competitions, and over one million use running as a form of exercise without entering a competition.
Over time, great athletes have brought Sweden fame to the world, if we mention the Olympic champions Ludmila Engquist (100 m h – 1996), Stefan Holm (height jump – 2004), Christian Olsson (triple jump – 2004) or Carolina Kluft (heptathlon). To which we add Daniel Stahl (discus trow), world leader in 2019 and Armand Duplantis (pole vault), silver at the World Championships in Doha, the holder of the world record.
At the previous edition of the European Team Championships (8 th), Sweden also competed in League I, where we will find it in the competition on “Cluj Arena”.
